Diana Vreeland once said that “Fashion must be the most intoxicating release from the banality of the world.”I would have to agree. Ever since I can remember I've been fascinated by the theatrical extravagance of the world shown by fashion magazines, taking me out of my reality straight into imagination. A certain desire to be part of exactly that world never let me go.
ELLE is one of my favorite fashion magazines because of their aspirational yet accessible razor sharp way of portraying and writing "fashion". That's why I'm more than excited that my blog - "A Suitcase in Berlin"- for ELLE.nl is now online, giving weekly vignettes of my life in the European capital of nouveau couture, hip artistic and street-chic.
My ELLE - blog is named after Marlene Dietrich's husky chanson: "Ich hab noch ein koffer in Berlin" (I still have a suitcase in Berlin), which described how Marlene left a full suitcase in Berlin to wait for her return, as she could never really say goodbye to Berlin. Although my suitcase is more empty than full, laying on the floor of my new closet in Berlin, and leaving is not on my agenda, I do know that once you have a suitcase in Berlin....you don't want to leave anymore. So, empty or full... A suitcase in Berlin can keep you rather (pre-)occupied....
